How to disguise scratches on wood furniture!

Disguise scratches, scrapes and dings on wood furniture by rubbing walnuts over them.
My aunt sent me an email that had this cleaver idea. I wish I knew where the idea came from so I could give proper credit, but there was no name. I had some scratches to disguise and put the idea to the test.
Years ago my sweet daughter was playing with some toys on the piano bench and made some scratches. I  covered the bench in order to hide them.  Over the last few months the old covering was coming apart due to more play by other children.  I used this method on my piano bench to disguised those scratches. It worked! What a fabulous idea!!

1.Crack some walnuts

 2. Rub a walnut over scratches.

3. Disguise more scratches!

What a success!

Just wanted to share how to hide those scrapes and dings! Now to see if it will work on other wood furniture too!  Thanks to the person who figured this out!! Thank to my Aunt for the informative email!!

Being Prepared!

There are many ways in which one can prepare..emotionally, spiritually, temporally etc...In case of emergency or disaster, being prepared can help relieve fear and keep us calm. Below are different lists that can help us collect items that can be useful and necessary in an emergency situation. My mom sent me this list that she was given. It came from a list at a grocery store. Although lists may vary and differ depending on what we need..I thought this had some good ideas on it.

Provident Living

Here is a short message on becoming provident providers:
To listen or read the whole talk this message came from click HERE!

My husband is taking a class right now in which they have been discussing the different aspects of provident living and becoming better provident providers. I love talking with him about the good things he is learning. It helps us to look at our family and see how we can improve and be better. There are many areas in which someone can practice provident living. Once again our family is looking inward and finding ways to improve ourselves. It is always a constant goal for us to become good provident providers. One area that has blessed our family, is being sure that we have food storage.  Being prepared in this way has helped us when things get tight.
There may be times in our lives when we are not the ones who are in need, but what a blessing it can be to someone else because we were prepared. We can share and bless others when we are prepared. Prepared temporally and spiritually. The Lord is able to use us as instruments to help those in need. There are many people in need..especially with all the natural disasters that have been happening. There have been many helping hands out there giving. On the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints website www.lds.org there is a page dedicated to provident living. Click link below to go to it:

There are so many great links on that page regarding self-reliance and provident living. There are many resources to find out info on what is needed to become self sufficient. There are different links, where you can find ways to help those in need around the world. It is a very informational sight. Here is a sample of what you can find:
There are many good websites and books that can give us good ideas and information on provident living.

Years ago when looking for ideas I came across this book that I think is very useful. This book has emergency preparedness ideas, food storage ideas, How to store and how long to store, different ways to enjoy eating your food storage, recipes, etc.

This is a good store to find helpful products: Just click link below to go to website

Mother's Day is coming!

Mother's Day is fast approaching! Mother's are so special!  Mother's have great influence! When I say Mothers I am speaking of WOMEN. Women who have given birth to children, and also to those GREAT women who touch the lives of all those around them. They sacrifice and give so much of themselves!  What a responsibility and privileged it is to be a mother! Years ago my sweet mother gave me this beautiful book entitled Heaven's Touch A Tribute To Women. This book has fantastic art and tender quotes about womanhood.  It is a touching and inspiring book!  It would even make a great gift! I am so grateful to be a women and have the opportunity to be a mother. Although there might be challenges that come with the calling of motherhood..There is nothing that can completely describe the blessings and the JOY that accompany women and their efforts in doing such GREAT service. It is important to tell the special women in our lives how much we appreciate them every day, through our words and actions. Mother's Day is a day to give that extra gratitude! Here is one of the quotes in the book..

"Motherhood is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels."

Creamy Orange Julius

If you like the Popsicle that is orange with the vanilla cream center you will LOVE this Orange Julius!  It reminds me of those 50/50 ice cream bars I absolutely loved when I was young.  My kids and I enjoyed this cold delicious treat this afternoon! I had this recipe written on a piece of scratch paper in my recipe box..not sure where it came from. If it came from you..Thank You!! I like it and thought it would be good to share!! I did change one ingredient to make it more creamy...

Ingredients:
  6oz of orange juice concentrate
1 tray of ice
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup half & half
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla

Put all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth, but still a little icy. Too much blending can make it runny. How long you blend depends on you and the texture you prefer. Makes approx. 5-6 cups. Serve immediately!!
                                      Enjoy it before it melts!!

Love!

Valentine's Day is coming up! I posted a few good finds that I have come across over the years. These all have to do with LOVE!

This is a 2 minute video that gave me a desire to be and do better! It is a message from Thomas S. Monson on What Matters Most!

If you want a short read, this book is perfect! This is a cute little book that was given to me years ago. F. Burton Howard uses a real life parable from his experience to share how special marriage is.

Here is a quote from Gordon B. Hinckley

True love is not so much a matter of romance
as it is a matter of concern
for the well-being of one's companion.

Outside the snow is calm and quiet...

...but inside we are LOUD and busy!  This afternoon the kids and I enjoyed our own hot cup of chocolate and had Tim Tam Slams!  Rich, delicious and just right!  The cocoa helped us calm down and feel warm and cozy. Then we experienced the warm rich chocolate melting when we combined our hot cocoa with the Tim Tams! OH YEAH!  I'm in LOVE with Tim Tam Slams! I first came to know of Tim Tam Slams on my mission.  I served a mission on Temple Square in Salt Lake City Utah.  I met many people from all over the world.  I had a mission companion from Australia that introduced me to the Tim Tam Slam. I only experienced this delicious chocolate treat once, but always remembered the taste!  For years I couldn't find them anywhere! Then finally I found those chocolate wafers!!  Yippy!! PepperRidge Farm places Tim Tams in stores between October and April.  What a YUMMY treat!
To experience this delicious Tim Tam Slam, you take the Tim Tam cookie and bite one of the corners.  Then bite the other side, but opposite corner. Take the Tim Tam and use it as a straw to suck up the hot chocolate. (You may not want your cocoa to be too hot.) When you are able to drink cocoa through your Tim Tam, quickly put it in your mouth before you loose it and it drops into the hot chocolate.
Enjoy the warm, rich, melting chocolate!

CREATE

As I was trying to get my creative juices flowing, I pondered the word CREATE...
We were all created by a loving Father in Heaven.  He wanted us to become like him and so he gave us the ability, the power to create.  What does it mean to create? The dictionary on my bookshelf states: 1 to cause to come into existence; make; originate 2 to bring about; give rise to; cause. With this definition, to create is more than just art. What a magnificent gift this can be in our lives. What are we choosing to create?  We can't always control the circumstances that are created, but we can choose to create the attitude in which to face hard trials. We have the power to create joy, quality time, attributes, crafts, life, feelings, talents, attitudes, etc.   There are many things we can create with this power we've been given.  It is our choice. I feel it a privilege and a responsibility.  When we exercise our agency to create good things, we learn and become more like our Father in Heaven.  We draw closer to God and can feel and see him more in our lives. Here is a short message about the ability to CREATE!  I found it very inspiring!  Enjoy!
